There will always be the threat of
flooding, tornadoes, wildfires, drought, debris flows, landslides, wildfires, and
earthquakes somewhere in our state. These forces of nature can result in the loss
of life, and damage to housing, infrastructure, businesses and the environment.
There are things we can do to reduce the impact of these natural hazards. Hazard
Mitigation are those actions we take as citizens, businesses, and communities to
limit or eliminate the impact from these events. We hope the information in this
site will allow for a better understanding of our natural hazards and help identify
mitigation activities that you and your community support.
The Division of Emergency Services and Homeland Security hazard mitigation
programs are working with local communities, governments, and businesses
to develop and promote hazard mitigation activities in the state.
Our efforts include active participation and support of the Utah EPICenter,
Utah Seismic Safety Commission, National Flood Inusrance Program,
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and the Pre Disaster Mitigation Program.
This web site contains information on our specific hazard mitigation programs,
understanding hazards specific to Utah, mitigation publications, plans and documents,
and links to other hazard mitigation related web sites.
